Asymmetric Brittle Deformation at the Pāpaku Fault, Hikurangi Subduction Margin, NZ, IODP Expedition 375

چکیده
Quantifying fault damage zones provides a window into stress distribution and rheology around faults. International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expeditions 372/375 drilled an active thrust splay within the Hikurangi subduction margin. The fault, which is hosted in Pleistocene clastic sediments, surrounded by brittle fractures faults as well ductile deformation features. We find that fracture density zone enveloping asymmetric, with hanging wall showing greater overall at distances from than footwall. Furthermore, peak occurs area of mesoscale folding localized slip rather adjacent to main zone. attribute asymmetry disparate histories between footwall, and/or dynamic propagating rupture. Damage common shallow depths influences mechanical hydrological properties such channelized fluid flow stability. Finally, we demonstrate show similar damage-displacement scaling continental

Iodp Expedition 311: Cascadia Margin Gas Hydrates Site U1328 Summary
Site U1328 (Scientific Prospectus Site CAS-06A) is located within a seafloor cold-vent field, with dimensions 2 km by 4 km, consisting of at least four vents associated with nearsurface faults. The cold vents are characterized by near-vertical seismic blank (or wipe-out) zones that are between 80 and several 100 m wide, and show a clear E-W trend as identified from 3D seismic imaging. The most ...
متن کاملIodp Expedition 311: Cascadia Margin Gas Hydrates Site U1327 Summary
Site U1327 (Scientific Prospectus Site CAS-01B) is located near ODP Site 889/890 approximately at the mid-slope of the accretionary prism over a clearly defined BSR, estimated to be at a depth of 223 mbsf. The primary research objectives for this site are linked to the transect-concept of this expedition. Site 889/890 has provided critical baseline data for the development of the objectives of ...
متن کاملIodp Expedition 311: Cascadia Margin Gas Hydrates Site U1329 Summary
The objectives of coring and downhole logging at this site are tied to completing the transect of scientific drill sites across the Northern Cascadia Margin to further constrain models for the formation of marine gas hydrate in a subduction zone acretionary prism. The depth to the BSR rapidly becomes shallower around this site and is only half the depth (~125 mbsf) than at Site U1327 (~225) mbs...
متن کاملIodp Expedition 311: Cascadia Margin Gas Hydrates Site U1325 Summary
Site U1325 (Prospectus Site CAS-02C) is located near the southwestern end of the marginperpendicular transect established during Expedition 311 and is within a major slope basin that developed eastward of the deformation front behind a steep ridge of accreted sediments. Bathymetry data show that the seafloor in the western part of this slope basin is relatively flat with water depths around 220...
متن کاملVelocity and anisotropy structure at the Hikurangi subduction margin, New Zealand from receiver functions
S U M M A R Y We examine seismic velocity and anisotropy at the interface between the Australian and the subducting Pacific Plate in southern North Island, New Zealand using receiver functions from teleseismic earthquakes recorded on two L-shaped seismic arrays. IRIS station SNZO makes up the corner of the southern array. Velocity models are tested with a ray theoretical method that allows both...
